John 6:35-40 New International Version
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
“All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.” We are so foolish! We think we are the ones who have chosen to come to Jesus. We think that free will has given us power over our own lives. In truth, God is in control of all creation. He breathed life into us (Genesis 2:5). He has written his law in our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33). He has made promises to never forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6 for one). God is with us and all around us, all the time. He wants us to come to the realization that we belong to him.
I want to come to Jesus. I believe that God has pulled me, pushed me, poked and prodded me. He has revealed himself to me little bit by little bit as I have been able to grasp the magnitude of what he is trying to tell me. I am only just beginning to get the message. Jesus says he will never drive us away. It is free will that may cause me to wander away. I may lose my way. I may stumble and fall. But, Jesus wants us to be with him forever. He says he will never lose us. He says so…something to pray about.
