2 Timothy 4:6-8 New International Version (NIV)
6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Paul had travelled a very long road. From zealous prosecutor and persecutor, his experience on the Road to Damascus began his transformation to the most prolific preacher of the Good News (Acts 9:1-31). At any point along the way, he might have given up. Through his own persecution, trials and torments, Paul kept the faith. And what faith it is!

Pastor Larry Kreps ended his excellent message last Sunday with my very favorite passage from all of Paul’s writings.(If you missed it, go to the “Sermons” tab and listen to the podcast. We have so enjoyed Pastor Larry’s visits with us and thank him so much for spending much of his summer with Emmanuel) For me, Romans 8 is one of the most passionate, moving and empowering of all Paul’s writing. He sums it up this way, “37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Nothing in this or any other world can separate us from the love of God. Nothing. I am overcome each time I hear these words. It is hard to wrap my brain around a love that big. I don’t have to understand it. I just have to respond to it. Every time I have the chance to act in kindness. Every time I have the chance to reflect that love. I must choose whether to fight the good fight and serve my Lord and Savior or give in to the ways of the world…something to pray about.

Your sister in Christ, Vicki

P.S Pray for our friends who are responding in Colombia this week!
