Psalm 103:1-5 New International Version
1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
There are times when life is the pits. Problems with health, money, work, relationships all seem to overwhelm and drain us of energy and hope. It is going to happen. We are in the material world. The difference is that we know who is Sovereign over this world. We know who can pull us out of that pit.
Things will happen that we often can’t explain. Bad things. I think of that old song “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.” Well, God did make a garden for us, but we couldn’t live as he had asked. We are still trying to get that right. The amazing thing is that, in spite of it all, God still loves us! He will keep on trying to redeem us and pull us from the pit in which we find ourselves, no matter what. He will keep on loving us, even if our own choices have put us there.
Some may say It isn’t easy to keep trying. I have been there. The alternative is far worse. To live without a Savior, without a connection to the God of All Creation, would be a cold, fearsome life. It isn’t easy to keep trying, but it gets easier. Just try. Acknowledge God Almighty. Praise him. Love him back. Not just going through the motions, but really start to live as though you realize that you have been crowned with love and compassion. He’s waiting to hear from you…something to pray about.
