Philemon 4-7 New International Version

I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, 5 because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. 6 I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.

What a blessing Philemon must have been to all who knew him! Do you ever stop to think about your role in the community of believers? I am not talking about positions you may hold or work that you may tackle in the name of the church. I am talking about how you relate to the people around you. What impact do you have in the community of believers?

We are embarking on a renewed dedication as a congregation. Ways that we connect with each other, the means that make our connections better function, the way our church works within our congregation and without, are all being examined and re-energized. It is a process that never ends. It is a process that depends on the dozens and dozens and dozens of distinct and unique individuals that comprise our church family.

It doesn’t matter who you are. It is completely irrelevant what your talents and gifts may or may not be. You are a child of God. You have the capacity to be like Philemon. We all need to actively belong to the partnership of faith that leads to a deepened understanding. You will most definitely find things out about God, about your neighbor in the pew, and about yourself. We all need the joy and encouragement that comes from that partnership. How do you impact the people around you?…something to pray about.
