Corinthians 15:58 New International Version
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
There are times when it is hard to tell if anyone is getting anything out of the things we say or do. Does what I try to accomplish really make a difference? How can what I do amount to that much? What kind of difference can one person make? There are times when we get frustrated, bogged down in the everyday. Between work and family and health and home and…and…and…It is all well and good to say we cannot let our calendars run our lives. But even the faithful only have 24 hours in a day! It isn’t only how I spend those 24 that matters. It is who I am 24/7/365 that matters. Even more important than that, it is who Jesus Christ is that matters.
It isn’t always easy. Nowhere does it say it will all always be easy. In fact it tells us, “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:14). It is not always easy to combine everyday life in this world with the forever life we want to live for our Lord. We may never get to see the results of our efforts. There is a discipline required to work at being the person you understand your Savior wants you to be all the time, not just on Sunday mornings. That means learning how to treat people with grace and mercy. That means practicing patience and compassion. That means learning to love. It isn’t always easy. To borrow a phrase from those famous shoe people, “Just do it”…something to pray about.
Your sister in Christ, Vicki
