John 1:9-14 New International Version
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
We have seen his glory.
Sometimes when we focus on the birth of the Baby Jesus, we forget who that Baby is. He is the Word. He is the Light. He is the Father. The Trinity is a difficult concept for us to comprehend and yet, I am glad about that. I think it is supposed to be that way. God is God. We are not meant to know all about him and be able to dissect him like a biology specimen. He is the Almighty and we are his creation. The enormity of that relationship lies heavily on my mind these days. The depth of that grace and truth is overwhelming when you stop to contemplate that “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” As we begin a new year it is truly the time for celebration. This is the time for joy. We are loved that much. Can you feel it? Have you seen his glory? It is all around us…something to pray about.
