Psalm 31 New International Version
1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
4 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.
We find ourselves in a situation with limited options. We can deny the evidence and deride those who are cautious, pretending we are invincible (although, the older we get, the less likely invincibility seems). We can allow fear and worry to overcome us and make our days a misery. We can be consumed with anxiety over the what-ifs. We may even have to experience real loss. Regardless of the situation, there is one option that never fails.
Give it all to God. All the false bravado, all the fear, all the anxiety. Know that God is and always will be God. Know that God loves you and will be your strong fortress in any storm. Committing your spirit is a real thing. Surrendering the situation outside and your innermost thoughts and feelings to God is an actual process. Into God’s hands, you can trust all that you are. When all else is in tumult, God can be the one constant in your life. I know I never have to face anything that happens by myself. God is waiting to be our refuge. All we have to do is commit…something to pray about.
