Psalm 66:8-9 New International Version
8 Praise our God, all peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard;
9 he has preserved our lives
and kept our feet from slipping.
“Praise God from whom all blessings flow…” That’s my theme song wherever I am. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians, Chapter 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” While I am still learning what it means to put this practice into use, it has already brought me great comfort and made such a difference in my outlook. The Psalmist calls out to us, “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker” (Psalm 95:6). The time has finally come for us to open the doors and practice the form of worship that we have all missed so dearly. The together kind of worship. But, not all of us will be there.
Not all of us were able to shelter in place. Not everyone we encounter in the public arena plays by the “guidelines.” I can only imagine what those in healthcare, retail, law enforcement, etc. etc. encounter daily. I know how many people who show little consideration I must interact with every day. That is why we won’t be joining you. Not because we don’t love our church, but because we love you so much.
In John 4:20-21, we hear Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman, “Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.” Well, on Sunday mornings, we will be worshipping in our family room. I imagine that there will be others doing the same. We hope to join you electronically, but if we can’t get it together, please know that we are with you in spirit. Loving our Lord and Savior. Thanking the Holy Spirit. Praising God wherever we are…something to pray about.
