New International Version
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
I don’t mean to be a downer, but the message here is pretty plain. If you spend all your efforts on your own pleasure, that will be all there is. After all, Genesis 3:19 says, “until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Material things will disappoint and fade. Watching a child with longed for toys at Christmas comes to mind. By New Year’s Day, those toys may be cast aside. Yet, a child will never tire of being loved. Focus your efforts on loveand what you build has the potential to live on and on. Focus on your Savior and you will, too…something to pray about.
