Mark 1:9-11 New International Version

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

I was baptized as an infant, confirmed at twelve, and began to realize what it meant at forty-five. At sixty-five, I am still learning. Each time I am witness to the rite of baptism or read about Jesus’ baptism, I marvel at it all over again. With the Holy Spirit to help me, I hope to continue learning about the incredible mystery of God’s grace. Even though I cannot fathom why God should bother with us, I believe in redemption.  I believe in the love so deep that God is willing to wash us clean. I believe in the love so deep that Jesus would come in person to show us the way and make our redemption possible through his actions. I believe it is my responsibility to love in return. My job and my joy…something to pray about.
